La Spezia is the new hosting city of the 2019
Viareggio Cup youth football tournament. Competition organisers CGC Viareggio have decided to relocate it since there was no positive verdict regarding the reopening of the Stadio dei Pini in Viareggio.
“We have reluctantly come to this decision,” CGC chairman Alessandro Palagi says.
“Unfortunately, it could not have been procrastinated because of the time required to be ready for the tournament kick off.”
La Spezia now hosts most of the tournament matches: the opening game between defending champions Inter and Braga and the final are scheduled at Stadio Picco.
All those games that were originally supposed to be played in Viareggio have now been relocated to the “Bruno Ferdeghini” Intels training center, which will consequently host two matches per day, both telecast by Italian national broadcaster RAI.
Given to organisational necessities, not all the last scheduled matches in Group A and B will be played simultaneously at 3pm.
The tournament technical committee has agreed to schedule Torino-Athletico Paranaense on Friday 15 March at 5pm and Krasnodar-Perugia on Saturday 16 March at 5pm.
